Lions Club of Brussels Heraldic

20th CHARTER ANNIVERSARY

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE DISADVANTAGED

IN BELGIUM AND ABROAD

A great day, October 17, 2004

In 1984, Bill Collin, a Lion from the UK, together with LC Bruxelles Val Duchesse and LC Bruxelles Erasme, founded the first English-speaking Lions Club in Belgium.

It was new – it was daring! No one could forecast how many expatriates or Belgians would join. But the feeling was as the song says... “This Is Just The Start of Something Good”.

20 years later LC Brussels Heraldic has 22 members and has organised dozens of fund raising events – from the Brussels Swimarathon to collecting for Children in Need and twice recording a CD of Christmas Carols. These activities have raised some EUR 520,000! All of this money has been donated to hundreds of charitable organisations, not only in Belgium, but many other countries such as Russia, India, Romania and Honduras – African countries too.

This is something to be proud of and to celebrate! So come and join us on 17th October and enjoy a rare and special few hours with us in exactly the same place where it all started 20 years ago. Let’s reminisce on a good job well done!

Our original fanion design was based upon this well known photo down in the Grand'Place. Courtesy of Mike Walker's daughter. And the name Heraldic was a clever contribution from one of the member's wives, Jean Thompson.

There were over 200 people at our original charter dinner and the honour of having Freddy Thielemans as one of our special guest, together with the then International President Bert Mason. In line with local custom a suit of clothes ( a Lions Uniform ) was presented to the Mannekin Pis with Freddy.  The Mannekin Pis was also inducted into the club by  Bert Mason.

As well as celebrating 20 years of service we will be launching the Club into the next 20 years of Service through Heraldic's unique style of Lionism ! Looking forward to seeing many of our friends who made a contribution to this great club over the years.
